South Eastern Railway faces train cancellations at Santragachi; Services partially normal on Wednesday, says SPO

Extensive renovation work began on April 30 in the railway yard of Santragachi station, focusing on the lines at platforms four and five. This initiative aims to develop Santragachi as an important terminal station for South Eastern Railway. Due to the ongoing work, over 200 trains have been canceled since the start of the project. Notable trains affected include the Howrah-Digha, Digha-Howrah, and Purulia Express, all of which were canceled on Wednesday. In addition, the schedules of several long-distance trains have been altered.

Passengers have reported ongoing issues with the adherence to the train timetable, which has been a long-standing problem for South Eastern Railway. Despite repeated appeals to address this issue, irregularities in train timings persist. The situation varies daily, with some days showing better punctuality and others facing disruptions.

South Eastern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Om Prakash Charan, acknowledged the existence of problems and confirmed that efforts are underway to resolve them promptly. He stated, "There has been a problem. Efforts are being made to resolve it soon. But it has become much more manageable compared to earlier." Train services on Wednesday were reported to be somewhat normal compared to previous days.
